That’s completely okay—and very normal. I’ve photographed families for more than 15 years and also work as a special education teacher, so I’m very comfortable with kids who need to move, take breaks, warm up slowly, or simply have their own ideas about how the session should go. I don’t expect perfect behavior. In fact, some of my favorite photographs happen when we stop trying for perfect.

Start with clothes that feel like you. I recommend coordinating rather than matching and avoiding large logos, neon colors, or anything that feels uncomfortable. Texture, layers, and complementary colors photograph beautifully. Once you book, I’m also happy to help you choose outfits.

Sessions take place throughout the Sacramento area, including Fair Oaks, Folsom, and surrounding communities. I love natural settings, interesting neighborhoods, and locations that actually mean something to your family. We’ll choose a location together based on your family, the season, and the kind of photographs you want.

A little—but you won’t spend the whole session standing in a row smiling at me. I’ll give you enough direction so you never have to wonder what to do, and then I’ll let things unfold naturally. Expect walking, talking, cuddling, laughing, playing, and plenty of in-between moments. My goal is for your photographs to feel like your family, not a performance of your family.

We roll with it. Kids get tired. Teenagers aren't always thrilled about family photos. People get nervous in front of cameras. Life happens. My sessions are intentionally relaxed, and there’s no pressure to perform. We can take a break, change direction, move around, or give someone a little space. You don't need to arrive as the perfect family. Just arrive as yours.
