Last Saturday I photographed an event at Helwig Winery in Amador County, California. It was a fundraiser for Triumph Cancer Foundation. The woman that founded Triumph is also the architect that designed Helwig Winery. If you've never been to Amador County, I strongly suggest you visit sometime soon. I've lived here for nine years, and that was my first time visiting, aside from going with my family as a kid, but back then it wasn't the bustling wine country it is today.
The venue is absolutely gorgeous! The architect and founder of Triumph is Pam Whitehead; Pam is an amazing human being! How she manages to run a successful architecture firm and a very important and time consuming non profit is a mystery to me. I can barely work full time and shower twice a week.
Triumph Cancer Foundation is based out of Sacramento, California. It helps cancer survivors regain their strength and get into peak physical shape after chemotherapy. The team of personal trainers that work for Triumph are some of the best people I know, and truly care so much about each individual participant. I've photographed several of their events, and continue to hear how wonderful the trainers are, and how so many people wouldn't be where they are today without them. They say they felt weak, tired, and in some cases - utterly hopeless - and then they found Triumph, and their lives were transformed.
As someone whose lost both parents to cancer, this organization is very near and dear to my heart. If you know someone who could benefit from Triumph, or if you'd like to make a donation, please visit their website.
